Born in Chapleau, Ontario in 1950, he is the second oldest of nine children with six of them including himself earning their pilot licence. His Father ran White River Air Services based in Timmins, Ontario. Grew up and finished high school in Toronto and then went to McGill University in Montreal to earn a degree in science. The Deluce family added Austin Airways and Air Ontario to its holdings in 1970 and then later sold them off. Robert showed he had already learned a lot from his family roots in aviation as he sold off his interest in Canada 3000 before it eventually went under in 2001. On October 23 of 2006 he would then create his own Airliner, Porter. Two of his three sons actually work for Porter, one as an IT and the other as Chief Commercial Officer.
With a plan to add much needed competition to Canada's air service, Robert Deluce started Porter airlines as another choice for people flying throughout Canada and eventually parts of the U.S. Robert didn't want to be like other airlines who quickly get into the business just to fall after a few short years. Over $125 million was saved prior to start up to ensure that they could get off on the right foot. He already had a lot of experience managing several other airlines before taking on his own such as White River Air Services, Austin Airways and Canada 3000 Airlines. He is currently on his 25th year as president of Deluce Capital Corp. and is also owner and CEO of Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. Porter Airlines is based at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto and has just passed it's 6th anniversary at the location. The profitability of Porter has been in the red for most of their beginning years with terminal fees being paid to Air Canada but as of 2011 they are turning on profit and now control over 85% of landing slots in Toronto. Deluce plans on adding 50 more planes to the fleet within the next five years and is already planning on expanding by offering more flights to eastern Canada, parts of the West coast and more holiday type flights down south. Porter currently employs 1300 employees compared to their 200 at start up and also supports Canadian company Bombardier, to supply them with their growing fleet. Deluce continues to fly his own four seater aircraft on his free time when he's not busy managing the quickly expanding Porter Airlines.
